Application — 5 steps
- Clean the surface. Wipe with an IPA surface cleaner (H3508 or equivalent). Remove dust, grease, wax, and loose paint. Surface must be dry.
- Dry-fit and mark. Position the tape, strip, or shape and mark corner reference points with a pencil.
- Peel a 6" tab of liner. Anchor the leading edge, then peel liner in short pulls as you press the tape down.
- Press with even pressure. Use a J-roller or the heel of your hand along the full length. Firm pressure activates the acrylic adhesive.
- Cure. Adhesive builds strength for 24 hours. Restrict traffic for at least 30 minutes; full water exposure after 24 hours.
Optimal application temperature is 50°F (10°C) or above. Below 50°F the acrylic adhesive will not tack properly.
Not intended for
- Barefoot / pet-paw traffic — 60-grit abrasive is too aggressive for bare skin. For pool decks, showers, spas, or K-9 areas use our SafetyMark Resilient (non-abrasive rubber-feel) line instead.
- Freshly painted or sealed surfaces (<30 days cure) — the acrylic adhesive will lift uncured coatings.
- Frozen, icy, or wet surfaces during install — surface must be dry and 50°F+ for adhesion. Once installed, the tape performs well in wet and outdoor conditions.
- Porous unsealed concrete or wood — seal the substrate first so adhesive bonds to the sealer, not raw dust.
- Cryogenic or extreme-heat surfaces (<20°F or >180°F service temp).

Which width should I buy?
1″ is ideal for individual stair-nose stripes and edge marking. 2″ is our best seller for full stair treads and ramp edges. 3″/4″ covers wide industrial stair treads. 6″ is used for full walkway coverage and truck ramps.
How much surface will one 60 ft roll cover?
One roll covers 60 linear feet at the chosen width. Example: a 2″ roll covers 60 ft of stair nosing (about 24 stair treads at 2″ strip per tread). A 6″ roll covers 30 square feet of continuous walkway.
Do you sell full 328 ft logs or custom widths?
Yes. Our 60 ft rolls are stocked off-the-shelf; 328 ft logs, 46″-wide continuous stock, and custom widths from 0.5″ are available direct from Heskins — contact us with your specification.
How coarse is 60 grit compared to sandpaper?
60 grit is a medium-coarse aluminum oxide, similar in feel to 60-grit sandpaper. It is aggressive enough for shoe traction on stairs and ramps, but too coarse for regular bare-skin or paw contact. Choose the SafetyMark Resilient (rubber-feel) family for barefoot areas.
Will it stick to painted concrete or sealed wood?
Yes — provided the paint or sealer is fully cured (30 days minimum) and the surface has been wiped with IPA. On raw, dusty concrete, seal first or the adhesive will bond to the dust layer instead of the substrate.
Can I use this outdoors year-round?
Yes. The PVC backing is UV stable and water resistant, and Heskins-manufactured Safety-Grip has verified R13 slip performance on wet surfaces. Just install above 50°F so the acrylic adhesive tacks properly; after cure it holds through freeze-thaw cycles.
How long does one roll last in a stairwell?
In moderate commercial foot traffic, plan on 3–5 years before replacement. High-abrasion loading docks or entrance zones may see 12–24 months. Damaged sections can be lifted with heat and re-taped without removing the whole run.
Is this the same tape sold as Heskins Safety-Grip?

Does it meet ADA / OSHA slip requirements?
OSHA requires stair and walkway surfaces to have a coefficient of friction of at least 0.5. SafetyMark 60 Grit measures 102 TRL dry and 71 TRL wet (CoF equivalents well above 0.5), and carries NFSI High-Traction certification. Confirm your local AHJ’s specific citation before purchase.
Can I cut it with scissors or a utility knife?
Yes. Scissors work for the 1″ and 2″ widths; a utility knife with a fresh blade is easier on the 3″/4″/6″ widths. Cut the tape face-up on a sacrificial board.
How do I remove it later?
Warm the tape with a heat gun on low (or a hair dryer) and pull at a shallow angle. Residual adhesive lifts with citrus-based adhesive remover. Expect some substrate scuffing on soft materials like uncoated wood.
