Product Description
Anti slip bolt down plates are the perfect solution for high traffic steps where frost or water could cause people to slip and fall resulting in serious injury.
The plates are made from weatherproof aluminium which will not tarnish in foul weather, with a non slip coating covering most of the top surface and finished with rounded corners for a more aesthetic appearance.
L-Shaped Traction Plates for Steps use an aluminum base over the stair lip for a sturdy, weatherproof application any time of year. Untreated wood or concrete can wick water under the surface and loosen adhesive over time. Using these plates screwed directly to pressure treated lumber will protect people from falls in slippery conditions. Installs in minutes for a lasting solution to tough environments. The L shaped aluminum goes right over the stair tread lip providing a full coverage solution with no leading edge to be damaged by delamination from heavy traffic. These stair traction plates come with 8 counter-sunk holes (5 along the top edge and 3 across the front lip.) for a secure finished project.
- High Traction Surface with aggressive adhesive.
- NFSI, OSHA, RoHS Compliant.
- Water, chemical and wear resistance.
- Available in standard 25″ widths for uniform appearance.
- Fast and secure screw on installation.
Our bolt down plates are ideal for application in areas where Safety-Grip™ tape is not suitable i.e constantly wet, uneven or loose surfaces like external wooden surfaces such as decking as well as applying as non slip stair treads. Bolt down plates are manufactured specifically for these purposes, with countersunk eyelets for easy application, and can be fitted using screws, nails or clips.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are L-shaped bolt down plates used for?
L-shaped bolt-down plates are heavy-duty aluminum stair-nose covers that wrap the leading edge of a step. The 90° L profile places an anti-slip surface on both the tread and the vertical face of the step, so foot traffic gets grip on the top of the stair and on the lip when descending. They're ideal for outdoor wood decks, concrete steps, boat ramps, loading-dock stairs, and any stair edge where adhesive tape would fail from moisture, ice, or wear.
What size are the L-shaped plates?
Each plate measures 4.7" x 1.7" x 25" (120mm x 45mm x 635mm) — a 4.7" tread portion, a 1.7" front lip, and a 25" run. This matches the Heskins H3409-L standard. For steps wider than 25" you can install multiple plates side-by-side; for narrower steps trim with a jigsaw or metal shears.
How are they installed?
Each plate has 6–8 pre-drilled countersunk mounting holes (typically 5 across the tread and 3 across the front lip). Mount using #10 or #12 stainless steel wood screws for wood stairs, or Tapcon-style concrete screws with a 3/16" masonry bit for concrete. No adhesive is required — the mechanical fasteners hold the plate against the substrate, and the aluminum-oxide safety-grip coating is factory-bonded to the aluminum plate. Full install typically takes 5–10 minutes per plate.
What safety-grip finishes and colors are available?
L-shaped plates ship with Heskins Safety-Grip coating in your choice of Standard (aluminum-oxide medium grit — most common), Coarse, X-Coarse (highest grip, boot traffic only), Aqua-Safe (wet-area optimized, lower barefoot abrasion), Resilient (rubberized for gyms/comfort), or Glow in the Dark glow-in-the-dark. Colors include black, beige, fluorescent yellow, grey, safety yellow, black/yellow hazard, and luminous glow-green (Glow in the Dark only).
Are the plates OSHA and slip-resistance compliant?
The Safety-Grip coating exceeds industry slip-resistance thresholds — wet coefficient of friction is 0.98 (Standard), 0.95 (Coarse), and 0.80 (Aqua-Safe), all measured per ASTM D2047 methodology. That supports OSHA 1910.22 walking-working surface requirements, ADA-compliant walkway slip-resistance targets, and NFSI High-Traction certification. Documentation available on request.
How long do they last outdoors?
Heskins performance testing shows a life of 40+ months for the aluminum base plate and 24+ months for the top safety-grip surface under continuous heavy traffic and weather exposure. The plate is rated for -30°C to +70°C (-22°F to +158°F) and shows excellent resistance to motor oil, 10-month water resistance, and 8-month chemical resistance (PSTC-35 test method). When the surface eventually wears, install a Replacement Anti-Slip Pad without removing the aluminum base.
Can these be used on wet or icy stairs?
Yes — that's exactly what they're built for. Unlike anti-slip tape, which relies on adhesive that fails on porous or wet substrates, bolt-down plates are mechanically fastened. Untreated wood and concrete both wick moisture, which causes tape adhesive to release. Screw-anchoring the plate solves that failure mode, and the aluminum plate itself is weatherproof and won't tarnish. For icy conditions, Coarse or X-Coarse grit gives the deepest bite through frost.
Do you offer replacement anti-slip pads?
Yes — see the Anti-Slip Covering Replacement Pads product. When the safety-grip surface wears after several years of heavy traffic, you can refresh the plate with a peel-and-stick pad pre-cut to the 4.7" x 1.7" x 25" L-shape footprint. That saves the aluminum plate and the fastener holes in the substrate.
